Turmeric Latte for Fighting Inflammation

If you're looking for a comforting and tasty warm drink, give this turmeric latte, also known as Golden Milk, a try. Turmeric contains many anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds, the best known being curcumin. Curcumin has been studied in depth for its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effects.

Curcumin is best absorbed into the bloodstream with a source of fat (the coconut milk and oil in this recipe) and with pepper (also in this recipe).

Give it a try and let me know what you think!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup coconut milk

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 1 inch of unpeeled turmeric root cut into thin slices OR 1/2 tsp dried turmeric

  • 1/2 inch of unpeeled ginger root cut into thin slices

  • 1 tbsp honey

  • 1 tbsp coconut oil

  • 1/4 tsp whole black peppercorns

  • Ground cinnamon for serving

Directions:

1. Whisk coconut milk, cinnamon, turmeric, ginger, honey, coconut oil, peppercorns, and 1 cup water in a small saucepan; bring to a low boil.

2. Reduce heat and simmer for about 10 minutes to let the flavours come together.

3. Strain through a fine strainer into mugs and top with a dash of cinnamon.

Enjoy the chai-like flavours!
